The chair lift Anacapri
Is located on the slope of Mount Solaro facing Capri and sheer over Marina Piccola.
The name seems to be originating from a plant of Capri: the cedronella; the other hypothesis is linked to a legend according to which wants him to be
derived from a temple dedicated to Venus Citerea.
Built around 1400, the Hermitage of S. Maria di Cetrella is protected by a wall having glass splinters pointed.
The church is composed of two naves: one dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary and the other is enriched by a painting of the XVI century that represents San Domenico.
Beyond the church you can admire the campanile, the sacristy, the kitchen and some cells
where they dwelled Franciscans and Dominicans finding in these places the peace and serenity desired.
Cetrella was considered by the families of fishermen a pilgrimage destination before an adventurous journey at sea, it is for this reason that the painting of S. Mary, inside the church, considered the patron saint of sailors, is particularly dear to the entire population of Capri.
The beauty of the Cetrella Valley is also represented by its flora. Typical mediterranean flora is rich of pines, oaks, chestnuts, brooms, erica, euphorbia, arbutus,
anemones, daffodils and many other varieties of flowers together with about fifteen species of orchids including the rare Serapios Neglecta de Not.
Currently the church is consecrated and in particular periods of the year (especially in May and October) is used as the seat of the liturgy.
The visit to the Hermitage of S. Maria di Cetrella is allowed especially during the summer period, thanks to the care of some volunteers
who dedicate their time to the maintenance and its opening to the public of this enchanting place.
From Marina Grande or Capri it is ten or at most fifteen minutes to get to the Piazza della Vittoria in Anacapri, just in front of the ancient ruins of the Gate where you find the chair lift station for Monte Solaro.
